What is toughened glass?
Toughened glass is annealed glass that has been subjected to a heat treatment process to add strength and give it safe breaking characteristics, leading to it becoming approximately 5 times stronger than annealed glass. When toughened glass breaks the internal tensile stresses are released resulting in a large amount of energy causing it to shatter into lots of tiny pieces, the energy that is released also causes a loud bang as the glass breaks. This makes Toughened glass a safety glass because it breaks into small rounded pieces as opposed to large sharp shards of glass.
