What is an upstand?
An upstand is the structure used to prevent a rooflight from coming into contact with the surface of the roof and is needed for most building regulations. The upstand also needs to be a minimum of 150mm to ensure your unit is fully weatherproofed. You will often be required to build an upstand prior to your rooflight installation, contact your rooflight manufacturer regarding the specific specification of the upstand, to ensure that the profile is designed and engineered to fit your exact rooflight, giving you peace of mind that the specified rooflight will benefit from improved thermal performance, weathering and air tightness.
